Hyundai May Soon Introduce Dual-Cylinder CNG Tech: South Korean automaker Hyundai is looking to capture a bigger portion of its expanding market in India. With the increasing demand for CNG cars in India, Hyundai has filed trademarks for new CNG-related technology in India. According to IP India Services, Hyundai Motor India has registered trademarks for 'Hy-CNG' and 'Hy-CNG Duo,' suggesting the company is developing dual-cylinder technology for its petrol-CNG bi-fuel cars.

Currently, Hyundai India offers three CNG models: the Grand i10 Nios hatchback, the Aura compact sedan and the Exter SUV. The company may soon introduce dual-cylinder CNG versions of these models under the 'Hy-CNG Duo' badge, while the single-cylinder versions will be labelled as 'Hy-CNG.'
Initially, CNG was primarily used by commercial vehicle owners, but now, more private vehicle owners are opting for CNG cars. The demand for petrol-CNG bi-fuel cars has been rising in India due to several factors. The high cost of petrol and diesel, lower overall ownership costs, reduced emissions and stricter emission norms for petrol and diesel vehicles are fuelling this trend. This shift has prompted automakers like Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Hyundai to focus more on CNG technology.

Tata Motors offers its iCNG range with dual-cylinder technology, allowing owners to fill more CNG and travel longer distances without refuelling, reducing overall ownership costs. Seeing the popularity of Tata’s iCNG vehicles, Hyundai aims to enhance its presence in this segment. By introducing new CNG technology and expanding its CNG vehicle lineup, Hyundai is positioning itself to better compete in India’s growing CNG car market.
