Hyundai IONIQ 5 Recalled: Hyundai has recalled its flagship electric vehicle in India, the IONIQ 5, due to a potential problem with the integrated charging control unit (ICCU). The ICCU is crucial because it converts high voltage from the main battery to the lower voltage used by the 12V secondary battery. If the ICCU is faulty, it can cause the 12V battery to drain. This recall affects over 1700 units manufactured between January 2023 and April 2024.

The ICCU also manages the vehicle-to-load (V2L) function, allowing the IONIQ 5 to charge other devices. A malfunction in the ICCU can place too much load on the 12V battery, causing it to discharge. This can disable essential electronic features like the infotainment system and climate control. This step aims to prevent any inconvenience caused by potential malfunctions, especially important for functions like air conditioning during India’s hot summer months.
Owners of the affected IONIQ 5 units should visit their nearest Hyundai dealership or workshop for an ICCU inspection. Hyundai will contact customers directly to arrange these inspections. If a fault is found, the ICCU will be replaced at no cost to the owner. This recall shows Hyundai’s commitment to customer safety and product reliability. Customers experiencing issues or seeking more information should contact Hyundai’s customer service for help.
