Mahindra Freedom NU Platform: Mahindra has entered the next chapter of its Heartcore design philosophy with the reveal of a new monocoque platform, dubbed NU_IQ. The architecture is modular and supports multiple powertrain options (ICE, Electric, Hybrid). Then, we have the body style. The new platform is capable of spawning off different body styles, but Mahindra said its upcoming next-generation vehicles based on this platform will all be SUVs.

Speaking of, the four concept SUVs unveiled yesterday at Mahindra's Freedom NU event – the Vision.X, Vision.T, Vision.S, and the Vision.SXT – are all based on multi-energy NU_IQ. The models are currently under development, and the process is expected to come to fruition in 2027, first in the form of the sub-4m SUV sharing its DNA with the Scorpio family.

NU_IQ: Platform for Both Above and Below 4-metre SUVs

The focus of Mahindra's NU IQ platform is on models from the mid-size segment, with sizes ranging from sub-4 metres to around 4.5 metres, as well as a wheelbase of 2,600mm and ground clearance of 127mm (standard form).

NU_IQ: Platform with Sufficient Boot Space, Legroom

According to Mahindra, when the next-generation SUVs hit the market, they will provide ample space, enough to accommodate up to 644 litres of boot space, along with 937mm of legroom and 1,404mm of shoulder room for second-row occupants.

NU_IQ: Platform for Different Body Styles

We know that the Vision.X is a coupe-SUV with a mixed bag of design elements. It is likely to be either a new-generation XEV or XUV. Then, the Vision.T is believed to be the Thar E evolution, while the Vision.SXT is a rugged pickup concept based on the electric Thar. Last but not least, the Vision.S has the Defender vibe going on.

NU_IQ: Platform for Multiple Powertrains

While it can house petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric powertrains, NU_IQ is said to offer AWD (all-wheel drive) with ICE and electric SUVs, which, according to the brand, will have a flat floor. Feature highlights include a 5-link rear suspension (with active dampers) and a variable-ratio steering rack.

NU_IQ: Platform for Off-Roading too

Apart from AWD, the platform offers a 34.9-degree departure angle, a 28.2-degree breakover angle, and a 28-degree approach angle, further helping its off-road capabilities. Besides, its seemingly upright stance will lend drivers a commanding seating position.

NU_IQ: Platform for 5-Star Safety Rating?

While it is too soon to comment, Mahindra claims that the NU_IQ-based models will get a perfect 5-star safety rating from BNCAP, Euro NCAP, and ANCAP.
