Mahindra introduced its pickup truck concept, the Global Pik Up, which is based on the Scorpio N. Mahindra currently refers to its pickup truck, which is based on the Scorpio Classic, as the Pik Up in several foreign markets.
The concept will eventually lead to a real pickup, which Mahindra claims will be supported by a 'next-generation ladder-frame' that will perform well in both Global NCAP and Euro NCAP tests.
Mahindra Global Pik Up - Exterior
The Pik Up concept has been developed at the Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS) and resembles the Scorpio N visibly from the front as the headlight, bonnet, fenders, and front doors are very much alike. The bumper is brand-new and features a large bash-plate, tow hooks, and an aggressively designed popped-out grille on top of the bash-plate. The design features a snorkel as well as a roof rack with a large LED light bar at the front for improved water-wading.

The exhibit car featured two spare tires stored in the cargo area, and the double-cab concept incorporates a flying buttress design for the load bed. Although Mahindra has not yet provided specifications, the wheelbase appears to have been lengthened. The brand name "Mahindra" is engraved on the tailgate, and the bumper has two tow hooks at the back, with the middle section being transformed into a step to make accessing the cargo bed easier. The tail lights feature a pixel-like pattern, as we had previously seen in the company's teasers.
Mahindra Global Pik Up - Features
Mahindra claims that the Global Pik Up will be loaded with features and technology, as would be imagined of a futuristic concept. It mentioned a few features as Level-2 ADAS capability, semi-automatic parking, and 5G-based networking features. Additionally, this pickup will include a sunroof, which is a popular feature in India.
Mahindra Global Pik Up - Engine
According to Mahindra, the new pickup will be powered by a Gen-II mHawk diesel engine made entirely of aluminium, which will be paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or an automatic transmission from Aisin. The Mahindra Global Pik Up will include 4WD and the ability to alter gears while driving. Additionally, four driving settings are available: Normal, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud-Rut, and Sand.
The production version will include the aforementioned diesel engine given that South Africa, Australia and India are its primary markets. However, the Global Pik Up will provide the same petrol engine that will power the Scorpio N in 2025, the year the Global Pik Up will probably debut in other markets, such as a few nations in the ASEAN region where demand for petrol pickups is also high.

Mahindra’s Future Plans
It is significant that the Global Pik Up was unveiled in South Africa because Mahindra has a fast expanding market share in that country, which also enjoys pickup trucks, or bakkies as they are known there. Mahindra is indicating its global ambition with this unveiling, and while the production pickup will be sold in India as well, it will have a greater global impact in markets like Australia, where Mahindra is also forging a significant presence and a market that favours pickups, or utes as they are known there.
