Maruti Suzuki Rail Transport: Maruti Suzuki has successfully dispatched its first batch of vehicles to the Kashmir Valley by rail, marking a historic first for the country's largest carmaker. The first such rail shipment reached the newly opened Anantnag railway terminal on Friday (October 3), featuring Maruti Suzuki models such as the Brezza, Dzire, Wagon R, and the S-Presso.
Maruti Suzuki Maiden Rail Shipment: Manesar to Anantnag
The maiden train carrying over 100 Maruti Suzuki vehicles embarked on its journey to Anantnag from the carmaker's recently inaugurated in-plant railway siding at Manesar, Haryana, covering over 850 kilometres. Along the way, the inaugural train crossed the world's highest railway arch bridge, built over the Chenab River. For those unaware, PM Modi inaugurated the Chenab railway bridge in June 2025, as part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project to strengthen regional connectivity and boost efficiency in logistics.

Highlighting the importance of rail transport in economic development, while calling the Jammu–Srinagar railway line 'a game changer' for the people of Jammu & Kashmir, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, Electronics & Information Technology, said, 'In recent times, apples from the valley have been transported using the Jammu & Kashmir rail link. Now, Maruti Suzuki cars will be transported to the Kashmir Valley by rail.'

Crediting the Indian government for expanding infrastructure to transform connectivity in India, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, 'Railway dispatches are central to our logistics strategy. We are grateful to the Hon'ble Prime Minister, under whose leadership, transformative infrastructure projects have come up across the country.'
'The world’s highest railway arch bridge over the Chenab river is one such landmark, enabling seamless and efficient connectivity to the Kashmir Valley and allowing Maruti Suzuki to better serve customers in the region.'

In alignment with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, Maruti Suzuki operates two in-plant railway sidings at its Manesar and Gujarat manufacturing facilities, enabling direct vehicle movement from the facilities to different parts of the country. Maruti Suzuki obtained an Automobile Freight Train Operator (AFTO) license in 2013, becoming the first automaker in this regard. Since FY2014-15, the brand has dispatched over 2.6 million (26 lakh) vehicles using Indian Railways, reducing carbon emissions and easing road congestion.
