Renault and Nissan are gearing up to launch two new SUVs, including an all-new Duster and its Nissan counterpart. Both these SUVs are expected to hit the market by late 2025. These SUVs will also have seven-seater versions that are set to be available by late 2026.

According to a report by Autocar, sources within the companies suggest that the engine options for these SUVs will likely be limited to two turbo-petrol choices. The entry-level turbo petrol engine, known as HR10, is a 1.0-litre unit found in models like the Kiger and Magnite. However, it's expected to be upgraded for the larger SUVs. The second engine option, HR13, is a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine that is capable of producing a power output of 156 bhp, previously seen in the Nissan Kicks and earlier Renault Duster models. Both engines are likely to offer a 6-speed manual and CVT gearbox. Additionally, there might be a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol option for base variants, but there are no plans to reintroduce the K9K diesel engine. While a hybrid powertrain is under consideration, its development cost hasn't been finalised yet.
These upcoming SUVs will be built on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s modular CMF-B platform, which is used in various global models for both brands. The platform will be localised heavily in India to ensure competitive pricing.
The original Renault Duster was a hit in India's midsize SUV segment, known for its rugged appearance, car-like handling and a range of powertrain choices, including the popular K9K diesel. However, the new SUVs will focus solely on petrol engines, without diesel or hybrid options initially. Competing in the crowded midsize SUV market will be challenging, but Renault and Nissan are relying on attractive designs, competitive pricing and advanced technology to win over customers.

The SUVs are expected to be launched in phases, with the five seater variants possibly arriving first, followed by the seven-seater versions. Renault and Nissan aim to introduce both models in quick succession, starting their new product lineup by late 2025 in India.
