Tesla's First Supercharger: Having inaugurated its first showroom in Mumbai’s BKC (Bandra Kurla Complex) three weeks ago, US-based EV maker Tesla has confirmed that it will launch its first charging station on August 4 in BKC area. This charging station will feature four V4 Supercharger stalls (for quick charging), along with four Destination charging stalls (AC chargers). The soon-to-launch charging station, according to Tesla, will be the first of eight initial ones to be set up in Mumbai and Delhi. In total, Tesla plans to install 16 Superchargers in India. 

Tesla V4 Supercharger: Cost

Capable of achieving a maximum charging speed of 250kW, the V4 Supercharger will be available for Rs 24 per kWh. As for the destination chargers, commuters will have to shell out Rs 14 per kWh for a 11kW charge. The V4 Supercharger is built on a 1,000V bus, and has a 3,000mm-long liquid-cooled cable for high power output and quick charging.  

Tesla V4 Supercharger: Charging Capabilities

Using the V4 Supercharger at a charging rate of 250kW, the recently launched Tesla Model Y claims a range of 267 km in just 15 minutes - enough for five return journeys between Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and the Gateway of India, Tesla noted. For home charging, customers will be provided with a free wall connector with every new car purchase.

Tesla Model Y: Highlights

Tesla's new Model Y comes in two variants in India - standard RWD (rear-wheel drive) and Long Range RWD. The former has a 500 km range, while the latter yields 622 km (both figures, WLTP certified). Key features include a panoramic glass roof, powered seats, heated steering, eight exterior cameras, and AutoPilot tech (for an additional Rs 6 lakhs). The model starts at Rs 59.89 lakhs (ex-showroom).
