Volkswagen is all set to change its SUV lineup by introducing the Volkswagen Tayron that will replace the Tiguan AllSpace. Unlike the recently unveiled all-new Tiguan, the Tayron will have a unique exterior design. There will also be a five-seater Tayron SUV coupe variant, but it's uncertain if this will be available in India. Both models are expected to share many interior layouts and features with the new Tiguan.

This change will be implemented in all markets where the Tiguan AllSpace is currently sold, except for the USA where it will continue to be called the Tiguan because of its popularity. While China already has a Tayron model, the new Tayron to replace the Tiguan AllSpace will be a distinct model. For India, Volkswagen plans to introduce the Tayron, sharing the MQB Evo platform with the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq. The new Volkswagen Tayron is expected to be launched in India around early 2025 as a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) model. Contrastingly, the Tiguan AllSpace was introduced as a CBU.

Volkswagen Tayron - Powertrain

The Tayron will offer two engine options globally: a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel, both with 48V mild-hybrid technology and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. In India, Volkswagen will offer a petrol-only variant with all-wheel drive. Globally, the Tayron will have both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options.

In the global market, Volkswagen will introduce two additional petrol plug-in hybrid options for the Tayron, boasting electric-only ranges of 100 km. While Volkswagen has hinted at launching hybrids in India, only time will tell if these powertrains will make their way to the Indian market.
