Nitin Gadkari Road Transport Minister: All the solid waste will be utilised for road construction before 2027 ends, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said while addressing the 120th annual session of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) on October 9. Emphasising the importance of integrating technology into solid waste management, Gadkari remarked, 'No material is waste and no person is waste. Depending on the appropriate technology and leadership vision, you can convert waste into wealth'.
Nitin Gadkari: 80 Lakh Tons Segregated for Road Use
'Delhi has four such mountains; it does not look good. We have segregated 80 lakh tonnes of waste and used it in road construction,' Gadkari added. According to MCD data, over 280 lakh tonnes of legacy waste had been dumped on Delhi's 3 landfill sites (Okhla, Ghazipur, and Bhalaswa) as of July 2019, with 140 lakh tonnes on the Ghazipur site alone. Of 280 lakh tonnes, 60 to 70 per cent material estimated to have been recovered included stones and inert material.

Besides, efforts are also underway to use recycled water for the construction of roads and national highways. Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) mandated the use of recycled water for road construction in February 2025, substituting potable water with tertiary treated water in construction sites.
Nitin Gadkari Hails Ethanol Blending Initiative
The Indian automobile industry currently stands third behind the US and China, with a size of Rs 22 lakh crore. With biofuels and ethanol-based fuel initiatives, the size of the Indian auto industry will be the highest in the world in the next 5 years, according to Gadkari.
