Xiaomi, a renowned Chinese smartphone manufacturer, has entered the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) market with its debut electric sedan, the Xiaomi SU7. Surprisingly, the SU7 has collected an impressive one lakh bookings in less than two weeks since its launch, showcasing strong initial success. Now, the Chinese tech giant Xiaomi is gearing up to introduce its second offering. It is likely that this electric vehicle will be an electric SUV and is being referred to as the Xiaomi SU8.

Reports from Chinese media suggest that the Xiaomi SU8, based on a new platform while drawing design cues from the SU7 sedan, is currently under development. Although the official name 'SU8' has not been confirmed, Xiaomi is keeping tight-lipped about the SUV's specifications and features. As per speculations, it is being anticipated that the Xiaomi SU8 will share dimensions with the Porsche Cayenne, positioning itself as a potential competitor to the Porsche Taycan EV in terms of specifications and performance.

Despite the Xiaomi SU7’s early success, concerns have surfaced regarding the electric sedan. Several reports have come to notice about accidents involving the SU7, possibly due to driver error or technical issues. Some speculate that Xiaomi may not have conducted thorough testing procedures as other established automotive brands do.

The success of the SU7 has undoubtedly strengthened Xiaomi's standing in the EV market, with 50,000 bookings within the first 27 minutes of launch and all units sold out for 2024. While expanding its electric car lineup within a year may reflect confidence, Xiaomi also faces challenges, particularly regarding safety and testing protocols. As the company further penetrates its presence into the Chinese EV market, addressing these concerns will be crucial for sustaining its success and reputation in the automotive industry.Re
