In the run-up to the upcoming assembly elections, the Congress party intensified its agitation against the state government, launching the ‘Naukri Do Ya Kursi Chhodo’ (Give Jobs or Vacate Power) protest across Bihar on Thursday. As part of the demonstration, party leaders and workers locked employment offices to highlight rising unemployment and crime in the state.

The protest was led by MP Deepender Hooda, Youth Congress National President Uday Bhanu Chib, and Bihar Congress President Rajesh Kumar. Addressing the gathering, MP Hooda raised concerns over the plight of over seven lakh contractual workers in Bihar, stating they neither receive adequate wages nor job security.

State Congress President Rajesh Kumar targeted the Nitish Kumar-led government, alleging that in the past two decades, the biggest "achievement" has been unemployment among five crore youth. He also accused the state of failing to fill over five lakh vacant government posts and claimed that repeated examination paper leaks have raised doubts over the integrity of recruitment processes.

Congress leader Dr Shakeel Ahmad Khan linked the state’s rising crime rate—a reported 300 per cent increase—to growing joblessness. Youth Congress Chief Uday Bhan said that Bihar degrees were not being recognised in many other states, raising serious questions about the quality of education.

Several protesting contractual teachers, ASHA workers, and home guards demanded equal pay for equal work, citing discrimination in salaries despite similar responsibilities.
