Bihar Assembly Elections 2025: In a major pre-poll announcement, the NDA government in Bihar launched the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, aiming to empower women across the state through financial support. Under this scheme, 75 lakh women in the poll-bound state have received Rs 10,000 each to promote self-employment and livelihood activities.

The scheme, launched just ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, had drawn comparisons to similar political strategies deployed in other states to shore up voter support over other rivals. While the latest initiatives by the NDA government will translate into voter gains, it remains uncertain, but it clearly signals the ruling alliance to gain women's votes in the upcoming elections.

Will The Mukhya Mantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana Give NDA A Poll Advantage In Bihar?

The launch of Mukhya Mantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana follows a similar trend deployed by political parties in several other poll-bound states, where direct financial aid for women played a pivotal role in election outcomes.

Bihar

- In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP’s Ladli Behna Yojana, which offered Rs 1,250 per month to women, was seen as a “game changer” by experts in ensuring another term for the incumbent in 2023, Times Now reports.

- In Maharashtra, the BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP coalition introduced a similar scheme named Ladki Bahin Yojana, providing Rs 1,500 to women, which proved effective during a tough election year.

- Apart from Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, the BJP replicated a similar strategy in Chhattisgarh and Odisha ahead of the polls.

Even the Congress adopted a similar approach in Karnataka, launching the Gruha Lakshmi Scheme, offering Rs 2,000 to women, which was seen as a key factor in the party’s electoral victory. The JMM government in Jharkhand used a similar strategy to secure another term in 2024.

While the BJP’s Mukhya Mantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana differs in structure as it is being tied to self-employment rather than direct financial aid, it aims to tap into the same voter base. Whether the new initiative will offer NDA a similar edge in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections remains uncertain, but its launch just ahead of the elections clearly signals the ruling alliance's intent to shore up support from women voters.
