Zubeen Garg Death: Lookout notices have been issued against Shyamkanu Mahanta, organiser of the North East India Festival, and Siddharth Sharma, manager of the late singer Zubeen Garg, in connection with the singer’s death case, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday.

Zubeen Garg died in a swimming incident on September 19 in Singapore, where he was scheduled to perform and interact at the North East India Festival.

The Chief Minister warned both the NEIF organiser and the singer’s manager of an intensified police search operation if they fail to appear and record their statements in Guwahati on October 6.

“As the Durga Puja festival will begin, we don’t want them to come right now. But after Dashami, they have to come. They must come to Guwahati on October 6 and present their statements,” Sarma said in a Facebook live video.

Warning of the consequences, Sarma said, “If they do not want to present themselves before the CID, which has been probing the incidents leading to Garg’s death by drowning in the sea in Singapore on September 19. They can approach the court.”

Assam CM further stated that Shyamkanu Mahanta’s bank accounts and credit cards have been frozen, adding that he cannot “remain outside for long,” news agency PTI reported. He said that while an autopsy report from Singapore is still awaited, the results of a second post-mortem conducted at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital are now ready.

To ensure transparency in the ongoing police investigation, CM Sarma has written a letter to the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court on Friday, requesting the formation of a judicial commission headed by a sitting judge.

“I have told Union Home Minister Amit Shah today that we will hand over the case to CBI the day it seems that the Assam Police is not being able to get justice for Zubeen,” Sarma added.

Assam CM Warns Against 'Nepal-like unrest' Amid Public Outrage

The Assam CM urged the people to calm down and avoid “anti-government politics in Zubeen’s name,” warning against attempts to turn Assam into “another Nepal.” Nepal recently witnessed a massive protest led by Gen Zs over a social media ban imposed by the K. P. Sharma Oli government.

On Thursday, agitated fans of Zubeen Garg reportedly stormed his manager’s house and threw stones at police vehicles during a raid by Assam SIT. Another fan, distressed by Garg’s death, allegedly jumped off a bridge in Guwahati.
