Days after announcing the candidates on six assembly seats, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha on Monday announced withdrawal from the Bihar Assembly elections.
While announcing the withdrawal, JMM blamed Congress and RJD of conspiring against it. Speaking at a press conference, JMM leader and Jharkhand Urban Development Minister Sudibya Kumar Sonu stated that political manipulation had been played against the JMM in the Bihar Assembly elections.
He said that the RJD bears full responsibility for this, while the Congress is also responsible for failing to adhere to coalition principles. The JMM could have played a significant role in the election by being part of the Grand Alliance.
He added that JMM had helped the RJD in the 2015 elections, and the RJD promised three seats to the JMM in the 2020 elections, which were not fulfilled.
In the 2024 Jharkhand Assembly elections, the JMM followed the alliance dharma by including the RJD, Congress, and the Left parties. He added that the JMM was betrayed in the Bihar elections and it is deeply hurt by this.
Speaking about the seat-sharing talks, the minister said that on behalf of the party, he visited Patna on October 7 at the Chief Minister Hemant Soren's direction. He held talks with the top RJD leadership and an agreement was reached to give the JMM five seats, but eventually, in a political manoeuvre, the JMM was not included in the Grand Alliance.
He warned that the forces that hurt the JMM will also have to bear the consequences. The Congress party is as much responsible for this as the RJD, as it remained silent throughout the matter.
JMM's exclusion from the Bihar Assembly elections could also impact Jharkhand politics as the party had earlier said that it would review the alliance in the home state.
Reiterating it, the minister said that the organisation will review the activities of the Mahagathbandhan and make decisions in accordance with the interests of JMM and Jharkhand.
