The Bihar Legislative Assembly faced major disruptions on March 26 as opposition members staged protests demanding the implementation of the Sachar Committee report and the withdrawal of the Waqf amendment bill. Opposition legislators demonstrated both inside and outside the Assembly, waving banners and shouting slogans.
During the session, CPI(ML) leaders Mahboob Alam and Gopal Ravidas attempted to overturn the reporter's table in the well of the House, prompting marshals to intervene. The marshals also confiscated placards and posters from the protesting members.
Due to the continued uproar, legislative proceedings, including Question Hour, were severely disrupted. Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav adjourned the House within 15 minutes of commencement.
As the session began at 11 AM, opposition members immediately began their demonstrations. Mahboob Alam entered the well waving a placard, while Satydev Ram pushed for an adjournment motion. Ignoring the Speaker’s calls for order, Alam attempted to overturn the table, and soon, other opposition members joined the protest.
The Speaker warned them about their conduct, especially in front of school children watching from the gallery. Some legislators even placed chairs on the table in the well, which were later removed by marshals.
With the protests showing no signs of abating, the Speaker adjourned the session. Meanwhile, Parliamentary Affairs and Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary proposed shifting Friday's legislative business to Thursday. The Speaker approved the motion, effectively concluding the budget session a day earlier than scheduled.
