Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday revealed the final design of the proposed “Janki Mandir” to be built at Punauradham in Sitamarhi district ,a revered Hindu pilgrimage site believed to be the birthplace of goddess Sita. Highlighting the state’s commitment to the project, the CM announced that a dedicated trust has been set up to fast-track redevelopment work at the sacred site.
Taking to X, Kumar stated, “I am very happy to inform you that the design of the grand temple and other structures for the redevelopment of Jagat Janani Maa Janaki's birthplace Punauradham, Sitamarhi is now ready. A trust has also been formed for this so that the construction work can be expedited.” He also shared several concept images of the proposed temple layout, reaffirming his commitment by adding, “We are determined to complete the construction of the grand temple in Punauradham, Sitamarhi soon. It would be a matter of pride for all.”

The Bihar Cabinet has recently greenlit the appointment of a Noida-based private firm as the design consultant for the project. Notably, this is the same firm that contributed to the master planning and architectural services of the Ram temple in Ayodhya lending significant experience and credibility to the Punaura Dham venture.

Earlier, the state government had approved a budget of Rs 120 crore for the temple’s overall development. A large number of domestic and international devotees visit Punaura Dham annually, underlining its religious and cultural importance.

The temple redevelopment project, for which Nitish Kumar laid the foundation stone on December 13, 2023, includes several key features. These involve the creation of themed zones like ‘Sita-Vatika’ and ‘Luv-Kush Vatika’, a dedicated parikrama path, display kiosks, cafeteria, children’s play areas, and other modern amenities.
To enhance accessibility, all connecting roads to the pilgrim site are also being developed. Besides, thematic gates and parking areas are being constructed around the pilgrim site.
