Samrat Choudhary Profile: The voting for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly election 2025 is near and the candidates are in their final phase of campaigning. Among the prominent contenders in the first phase is Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister and BJP candidate, Samrat Choudhary.

Choudhary is contesting from the Tarapur assembly constituency seat under the Jamui Lok Sabha constituency in Munger district.

Samrat Choudhary Background: Net Worth, Educational Qualification, Political Career

For the first time, Samrat Choudhary became an MLA from Parbatta in 2000. Samrat won the seat again in 2010, and in 2014, he was nominated by the Bihar Governor as a member of the Legislative Council and served as MLC till 2016.

In 2020, he was again nominated to the upper house. In his 25 years of political career, Samrat Choudhary served as a minister under Rabri Devi's RJD government, Jitan Ram Manjhi's NDA government, before becoming the Deputy CM in Nitish Kumar's government.

According to his 2025 poll affidavit, Choudhary holds a degree in Doctor of Litt. (Honorary) from PFC Kamraj University.

Samrat has a net worth of over Rs 9.27 crore and no liabilities.

What to expect from the Tarapur assembly election?

The Tarapur Vidhan Sabha has been a stronghold of JDU, the BJP ally, for the past 15 years. Being dominated by Koeri or Kushwaha voters, the JDU has maintained an easy grip on the seat. This time, the seat has gone to the BJP, and Choudhary, who is from the same Kushwaha community, is the candidate.

His father, Shakuni Choudhary, has also held the seat for two long periods, 1985-1998 and 2000-2010. The main contest is between him and RJD's Arun Kumar.

Jan Suraaj Party has pitted Dr Santosh Singh as its candidate. Among other parties in the fray are BSP and AAP.

Tarapur Assembly Seat: Demography And Past Elections

The Tarapur Assembly constituency is dominated by the backward castes, especially the Kushwahas. The other influential community in the assembly is the Yadavs. The seat also has a considerable presence of SCs, STc, and Muslims.

As per data from the Election Commission, in the 2020 elections, there were 3,17,340 voters in the constituency. Out of this, 1,71,393 were male and 1,45,939 were female voters.

Bihar Elections 2020: Back in 2020 Bihar Assembly Elections, JDU continued its winning streak with Mewalal Chaudhary defeating Divya Prakash of RJD by a margin of 7,225 votes.

Mewalal polled 64,468 votes with a vote share of 36.93 per cent. Divya, on the other hand, garnered 57,243 votes (32.80%). The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) candidate Mina Devi finished third with 11,264 votes (6.45%).

Bypoll 2021: However, the seat went for a byelection in 2021 after Mewalal's demise, JDU's Rajeev Kumar Singh won with a thin margin of 3,752 votes.

He polled 79,090 votes, with a vote share of 46.62%. He defeated RJD's Arun Kumar Sah, who polled 75,238 votes (44.35%).
