Bihar Election 2025: With just few weeks remaining in Bihar Assemble election, both the key alliances NDA and Mahagathbandhan, are making several lucrative announcements to gain the faith of the voters. The major political parties of the state are BJP, Lalu Yadav's RJD, Congress, and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led JDU. However, there are several regional parties with a significant vote share, decisive at times. The entry of poll strategist-turned politician Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraj has also spiced up the politics of the state. As per the last few assembly polls, the parties with larger vote banks are dependent on their regional alliance partners to cross the victory line.
How significant are the local parties?
Apart from JDU, the ruling NDA has regional parties like Union Minister Chirag Paswan-led Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), former minister Upendra Kushwaha's Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP), and former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi-led Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM). The opposition Mahagathbandhan is also dependent on several regional parties, including Mukesh Sahni's Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), and left parties.
Bihar Election: Neck to neck contest expected
The last assemble election of 2020 witnessed a close contest as the differnece of the vote share between the winning NDA and Mahagathbandhan was only 0.3 per cent. While the CM Nitish Kumar-led NDA managed to get 37.26 per cent vote, the opposition could manage to get 37.23 per cent. There were 52 seats where the margin of victory was less than 5,000 votes.
While 28 of them were won either by the RJD or the JDU, the Congress and BJP each won nine seats. The data from the Election Commission suggests that the differnce between the winner and loser on seven seats was only 500 votes. The assemble election in Bihar is set to be held in two phases on November 6 and 11, and the results will be announced on November 14.
