Bihar Election Result: The Nitish Kumar-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) registered a landslide victory in the Bihar Assembly polls by winning 202 out of the total 243 seats. While the BJP emerged as the single largest party by winning 89 seats, the JDU also won 85 seats, followed by Chirag Paswan's LJP (R), which also registered victory on 19 seats. The Mahagathbandhan, under the leadership of Tejashwi Yadav, could only manage to win 35 seats, its worst performance in 15 years. While there are many factors behind NDA's huge victory, several small parties also played a key role in the election.
Jan Suraaj's Impact On Both Alliances
While the Jan Suraaj could not even win a single seat, it gained around 3.4 per cent vote share and had an impact on both the alliances, especially in the urban regions. The newly formed party contested 238 seats and remained in second position on one seat, third in 129, fourth in 73, fifth in 24, and between the sixth and ninth positions in 12 seats. Jan Suraaj national president Uday Singh confirmed that the party will continue to raise important issues against the government.
BSP, AIMIM Damaged Mahagathbandhan
Apart from Jan Suraaj, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM also had a strong impact in certain regions. The BSP managed to get more votes than the margin of victory in 20 seats, out of which the NDA won 18 and the Mahagathbandhan could only win 2 seats. Owaisi's party managed to win five seats in the Seemanchal region and remained in the second position on one seat. Apart from this, it also got more votes than the margin of victory on nine seats, mostly won by the NDA.
