Mangal Pandey Profile: The first phase of polling in the Bihar Assembly election 2025 is set for November 6. This time, an exciting contest is expected between the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Mahagathbandhan in the state. Bihar's Siwan Assembly seat is one of those high-profile constituencies which witnesses a close fight in every election.

BJP leader Mangal Pandey is contesting the Siwan Vidhan Sabha seat as the NDA candidate. He will be up against Rashtriya Janata Dal’s (RJD) Awadh Bihari Choudhary, who won the seat in 2020 Bihar Assembly elections. The seat was previously won by BJP's Vyas Deo Prasad in the 2015 elections.

Mangal Pandey is a prominent and active leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Currently, he serves as the Health Minister in the Bihar government. This is the first time Mangal Pandey is contesting an Assembly election.

Mangal Pandey: Personal Background

52-year-old Mangal Pandey was born in 1972, in Bhirgu Balia village, located in the Maharajganj block of Bihar's Siwan district. He comes from a farming family. Mangal Pandey's father's name is Awadhesh Pandey, and his mother's name is Premlata Pandey. His wife's name is Urmila Pandey. He has one son, who studies at Modern School in Delhi.

Mangal Pandey completed his early education in Maharajganj and from Devi Dayal High School. He is a graduate, having earned a BA in Political Science from Patna University in 1994.

Mangal Pandey: Political Journey

Mangal Pandey stepped into politics during his student life. His political journey began in 1987. He first joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). During this time, he was involved in printing anti-government pamphlets, protesting, and organising demonstrations. Following this, in 1988, Mangal Pandey began attending RSS shakhas and became a regular swayamsevak.

1989: Joined the BJP as a primary member from Maharajganj and was made a member of the Maharajganj working committee.

1992: Elected as an executive committee member of the BJP's Siwan unit, and has remained in politics ever since.

1994: Inducted into the State Working Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).

1997-98: Served as the co-in-charge for Lal Krishna Advani's Swarna Jayanti Rath Yatra.

2000: Appointed the State President of BJYM.

2005-2010: Served continuously as the State General Secretary of the Bihar BJP.

2013: Was suddenly made the BJP State President. During his tenure, the BJP strengthened its organisation down to the booth level, which resulted in the NDA winning 31 out of 40 seats in Bihar in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
