The Election Commission (EC) announced the polling dates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections on Monday. The 243 constituencies of Bihar will vote in two phases, with Phase 1 taking place on November 6 and Phase 2 on November 11.

With this announcement, the Model Code of Conduct has come into effect across the state. Voters will be able to cast their votes at their respective polling stations on Election Day only if they have a valid ID. The Election Commission has warned that no voter will be allowed to vote without a valid document.

As per the rules of the Election Commission, if a voter does not have a valid Elector's Photo Identity Card (EPIC), they can vote by presenting one of the 12 alternative identification cards that have been allowed by the Election Commission at the polling station. Polling officers present in each polling station will verify these documents and only then allow the voters to cast their votes.

Which Documents Will Be Accepted By The Election Commission?

The following documents have been accepted by the Election Commission at each polling station:

  • Voter ID Card (EPIC)

  • Passport

  • Driving License

  • Aadhaar Card

  • PAN card

  • Service Identity Card issued by any Central or State Government Department/Public Sector Undertaking

  • Passbook with a photo issued by a bank or post office

  • A credit card of a nationalised bank with a photo

  • MNREGA Job Card

  • Insurance policy document with a photocopy

Why Do You Need Any Alternative Documents?

These alternatives will be valid for those voters who have lost their Voter ID cards or those who have not received the Voter ID cards on time, although the Election Commission is trying hard for the timely delivery of all the EPIC cards to the respective addresses.
