Bihar Elections 2025: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has introduced a new arrangement for voters in Bihar ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, allowing them to deposit their mobile phones just outside the polling station room before casting their votes.
New Facility For Mobile Phones
Announcing the initiative, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar said that voters have long expressed concerns about where to keep their phones while voting. The new system addresses this issue without changing the rule that prohibits mobile phones inside polling booths.
“Voters can deposit their mobile phones just outside the polling station room,” the CEC said during the announcement of the Bihar election schedule.

Bihar Poll Dates And Key Details
Bihar will elect representatives for its 243 Assembly seats in two phases, November 6 (for 121 seats) and November 11 (for 122 seats). The vote counting will take place on November 14. Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, described the Bihar polls as the “mother of all elections”, highlighting the Commission’s focus on smooth and peaceful conduct.
The 2025 Assembly elections will be the first in Bihar to take place after a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The revision, termed as a “purification” exercise by the poll body, resulted in a final list of 7.43 crore registered voters, including 14 lakh first-time voters.
To ensure better oversight, the ECI has also decided that each constituency will have its own observer, unlike previous elections where one observer was assigned to multiple constituencies.
Bihar Election 2025
The upcoming elections are shaping up to be a high-stakes contest between the ruling BJP-JD(U) alliance and the Mahagathbandhan, led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress. Adding another dimension is Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party, which aims to position itself as an emerging alternative in Bihar politics.
The ECI has assured voters that the polls will be peaceful, transparent and well-organised, with special attention to maintaining law and order throughout the electoral process.
