The Bihar government has commenced the land acquisition process for the construction of the much-awaited Gorakhpur-Siliguri and Raxaul-Haldia expressways. While providing details, State Roads and Highways Minister Nitin Nabin on Friday announced that the process is likely to be completed in the next two months. He emphasised that the state government will extend all the necessary support to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). The minister emphasised that these expressways will significantly boost the regional connectivity and will provide convenience to the residents of several districts.
While providing details, Nitin Nabin stated that these expressways will cut the travel time and reduce the traffic congestion in these areas. Apart from this, the projects will also boost the financial activities by connecting Bihar to the nearby states. “The land acquisition for these projects is expected to be completed within the next two months,” Nabin stated. He further stated that Assistant Land Acquisition Officers of all the concerned districts have been directed to start the process.

Earlier last month, the NHAI stated that the Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway will pass through several districts of Bihar, including West Champaran, East Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, and Kishanganj. The authority further stated that the Raxaul-Haldia Expressway will run 407 kilometers across nine districts of Bihar, including East Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, Munger, and Banka.
The NHAI urged the state government to commence the land acquisition process in these districts for the further necessary steps. Earlier in September, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar stated that the state government has been working on several key infrastructure projects to provide relief to the residents of the state. While taking a dig at RJD, Nitish stated that Bihar witnessed rapid infrastructure growth since 2005, adding that the previous government did nothing for people.
