To encourage more international flights from Bihar's two main airports—Patna and Gaya—the state government has recently announced a new policy. Under this policy, airline companies will be given financial help, ranging from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh per round trip, for starting services to destinations like Singapore, Sharjah and Colombo. After creating the policy, the government has now made it official.

To put this policy into action and monitor it, the government has formed a four-member committee. According to the Cabinet Secretariat, the committee's main job will be to create the rules for the policy, ensure they are implemented, and decide the amount of financial aid for the international routes.

The committee is headed by the Additional Chief Secretary of the Cabinet Secretariat and includes other senior officials like the Secretary of the Finance Department (Expenditure) and the Director of the Civil Aviation Directorate.

According to information from the department, to be eligible for this financial help, Indian airlines must use regular airplanes with a capacity of at least 150 seats on these international routes. Additionally, the companies must have all the necessary permissions from the relevant government authorities to operate international flights.

The department has stated that this financial support from the government will initially be provided for a period of six months. It can be renewed for another six months after reviewing the policy's effectiveness and the commercial success of the selected flight route.

Under this policy, flights from Patna to Kathmandu will receive an incentive of Rs 5 lakh per round trip, costing the government Rs 18.25 crore per year.

  • The Gaya-Sharjah route will get Rs 10 lakh per round trip, with an annual cost of Rs 36.5 crore.
  • Airlines flying the Gaya-Bangkok, Gaya-Colombo, and Gaya-Singapore routes will also receive Rs 10 lakh per round trip for each route.
