Under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), more than 71,000 workers have been provided employment upon request in Gopalganj district, Bihar. However, only 451 workers have received work for the full 100 days. To facilitate employment, over 6,000 small and large projects have been initiated across the district, including pond renovations, creek and drain cleaning, and other developmental works.
Since the beginning of the 2024-25 financial year, efforts have been made to ensure employment under MGNREGA across all 14 blocks of the Gopalganj district. Among the key projects, the renovation of over 60 old ponds, cleaning of 171 drains, and maintenance of approximately 225 small ponds have been prioritised, providing maximum employment to laborers. Currently, ongoing MGNREGA projects are progressing rapidly.
According to official data, a total of 71,953 individuals have been employed under MGNREGA this financial year. Deputy Development Commissioner Kumar Nishant Vivek stated that work is being provided in nearly half of the district’s 230 panchayats. The highest number of employed workers fall in the 41-50 age group, with work durations varying—8,162 workers have completed 14 days, 16,008 have completed 30 days, 5,649 have completed 40 days, and so on.
Despite these efforts, employment for the full 100 days remains low. Only 451 individuals have completed 100 days of work, with Kuchaykot block leading at 107 workers, followed by 79 in Hathua and 68 in Panchdeori. The lowest participation was recorded in Kateya block, where only four workers managed to secure 100 days of employment.
