Bihar Road Accident: Eight people died and two others were injured in a road accident in Bihar's Katihar district. Police on Tuesday said it was a head-on collision between an SUV and a tractor. The fatal accident took place near Sameli block office on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
They said the efforts are on to identify the victims. Police immediately reached the spot and rushed the victims to the nearest government hospital where eight were declared brought dead, the police said.
The SUV passengers were returning from a wedding function when they met an accident.
"At least eight persons, all men, died and two others were injured when an SUV in which they were travelling collided head-on with a tractor coming from the opposite direction on the NH-31 near the Sameli block office," Katihar SP Vaibhav Sharma said.
The two injured are undergoing treatment at the hospital. According to locals, the victims are residents of Supaul. It is believed that all victims were travelling in the SUV.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination and further investigation is underway, he said.
One killed as SUV hits bike in Bihar's Begusarai
In another raod accidnet on Monday, a man was killed while another was injured after a speeding SUV, belonging to the Block Education Officer (BEO) of Naokothi block, hit their motorcycle in Begusarai district.
The accident took place on State Highway 55 near Hardiya Dhala under the Mufassil police station limits. According to eyewitnesses, the SUV hit the motorcycle head-on.
The impact of the collision was so intense that the bike rider died on the spot, while the pillion rider sustained serious injuries. Following the accident, the driver attempted to flee but lost control and crashed the vehicle into an electric pole. The local residents caught the driver and thrashed him before handing him over to the district police.
