Bihar SIR News: Sharpening its attack on the Election Commission over the allegations of discrepancies in the Bihar voter list, Congress on Thursday alleged that all voters of a village in Bihar’s Gaya district have been registered under the same house number in the draft electoral roll of Bihar after the SIR.

Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi, who is carrying out a Vote Adhikar Yatra in Bihar, shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) alleging that all 947 voters of a booth in Nidani village of Gaya district, under Barachatti assembly segment, have been shown to be residents of house number six.

"See the magic of EC. An entire village has settled down in one house," Rahul Gandhi captioned the post. "This is about just one village. We can only imagine the scale of irregularities on the state and national level," Congress’ post on X reads.

Bihar Chief Electoral Officer Refutes Claims

In response to the claims made by Congress, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer in Bihar issued a clarification and said that notional house number is given in villages or slum clusters where the houses do not have any actual serial numbers.

“Notional House Number is an imaginary (symbolic) house number given when a voter’s residence does not have an actual house number available. In many villages, slums or temporary settlements, houses do not have permanent house numbers. In such cases, the BLO physically visits the area and assigns a serial number (like 1, 2, 3…) to each house. This number is only for convenience in listing and to record voters in proper order. It is used for voter identification and to prepare the voter list in an orderly manner.” Bihar CEO said, as quoted by PTI.

Video clips, purportedly of residents of the village, have also been shared on the Gaya DM's X handle in which the people can be heard saying they were satisfied with the special intensive revision of electoral rolls, but upset over "attempts to defame the area".

Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Adhikar Yatra

The leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is currently undertaking a 16-day Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar covering major districts of the state. He is joined by key Opposition leaders- RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, CPI(ML) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, and VIP’s Mukesh Sahani. The ‘Yatra’ is done mainly to address the contentious Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar, which the opposition claims has led to the deletion of more than 65 lakh voters.
