Bihar weather forecast: Preparations for the Chhath festival are in full swing across Bihar. However, the Patna Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert that coincides with the Chhath Puja period. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in several districts over the next few days, which could potentially disrupt the festivities.
Chhath Puja is celebrated on the sixth day of the Kartik Shukla Paksha and this year, the festival will take place from October 30 to November 2.
According to the Patna Meteorological Department, a yellow alert has been issued for 20 districts, including Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur and Bhagalpur, from October 25 to 28. This is due to the influence of a western disturbance. The timing of this rainfall may affect the 'Nahay-Khay' and the first 'Arghya' (offering) rituals. Along with the rain, a drop in temperature is also expected. Devotees observing the fast are advised to be cautious this year.
Rain And Yellow Alert Warning On Chhath Puja
The Patna Meteorological Centre stated that a low-pressure area forming in the Bay of Bengal will cause cloudy skies over many districts. In Patna, there is a 60 per cent chance of light rain on October 25, with moderate rainfall forecast for October 27-28.
During this period, the minimum temperature is expected to be between 18-20°C, and the maximum temperature will range from 28-30°C. Winds are also likely to blow at speeds of 30-40 km per h, with a possibility of rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.
The weather department has advised devotees to arrange for umbrellas and raincoats. A similar yellow alert was issued last year when light showers occurred during Chhath, reinforcing the need for devotees to be careful.
Chhath Preparations Intensify At Son Ghat
Meanwhile, preparations for Chhath Puja have been accelerated at the Son River Ghat in Patna, where a large number of women traditionally perform the puja. The administration is making strict security arrangements in advance. Directives have been issued to install temporary shelters at the ghats, and this work has already begun. Chhath Puja is a festival of unwavering faith for the people of Bihar and is celebrated with great enthusiasm.
