According to the department, bird flu is a virus-borne disease primarily found in birds, with wild aquatic birds being its natural carriers. If precautions are not taken in time, it could affect both the poultry farming business and public health. Bird flu is primarily a highly infectious disease in chickens. The infection spreads rapidly to other chickens through contact with infected birds. Furthermore, it can also spread to humans through direct contact with sick birds. The department has warned that this could cause significant financial losses to the poultry industry.

Symptoms And Risks For Children And Humans

Children and individuals with weak immune systems are at an increased risk of infection if they come into contact with the mucus, droppings, or feathers of sick birds. The symptoms of bird flu are similar to those of common flu, including high fever, a cold, a runny nose, and difficulty breathing. It is advised to contact the nearest health centre immediately if such symptoms appear.

Guidelines For Safe Consumption Of Poultry

The department has clarified that the bird flu virus is generally destroyed at a temperature of 70 degrees Celsius. This means that even if bird flu is confirmed in an area, there is no harm in consuming eggs and chicken if they are cooked thoroughly at 70°C or higher. Therefore, there is no need to panic; rather, correct information and caution are necessary.

Essential Precautions And Prevention Measures

Do not panic, be sure to take these precautions. Do not come into direct contact with sick chickens. If contact is necessary, use gloves or other protective equipment. Avoid touching the feathers, mucus, and droppings of sick birds. If contact occurs accidentally, wash your hands thoroughly with soap immediately. This small precaution can prevent a major risk. Additionally, keep birds in enclosures and only allow farm caretakers to enter the area.
