Jan Suraj Party founder and political strategist Prashant Kishor, who was arrested from Patna’s Gandhi Maidan this morning, has been released on bail. Kishor was holding a protest since January 2 in support of the students demanding the cancellation of the Bihar Public Service Commission examination (BPSC) held on December 13 last year. The bail was granted by the civil court. However, he has refused to pay Rs 25,000 as a bail bond, thus it's unclear whether or not he will be released.
The JSP founder remained in police custody for over 8 hours. He was taken to various locations across Patna to avoid agitation by his supporters. Kishor was also taken to Patna AIIMS and several other healthcare facilities for his medical examination. He categorically conveyed that he would continue his fast-unto-death till the demands of the BPSC aspirants were met.
After detention, Prashant Kishor urged his supporters to maintain peace. Earlier, he spoke with ANI and said, "This is not a matter of decision for us about whether or not we will continue the stir. We will continue doing what we are doing right now; there will be no change. Jan Suraj Party will file a petition in the High Court on January 7."
Regarding his health during the hunger strike, Prashant Kishor mentioned, "I won’t fall ill so soon. I’m fine right now, just a bit of a sore throat. Doctors have advised me to rest, but there's nothing serious."
The row surrounding this exam is intensifying as the issue has now reached the Supreme Court. The petition demands the cancellation of the BPSC prelims examination and calls for accountability for the police action against protesting students. It specifically seeks action against the SP and DM, who are held responsible for the use of force during the protests.
