In preparation for the Chhath Mahaparva, Patna traffic police have announced extensive traffic arrangements to ensure the smooth movement of vehicles and the convenience of devotees. The plan includes route diversions, one-way systems, and designated parking zones at major ghats across the city.
According to officials, traffic restrictions will be enforced from 12 pm to 7 pm on October 27 and from 2 am to 8 am on October 28. During these hours, vehicular movement will be either partially or completely prohibited on several routes. Only emergency vehicles, hearses, and vehicles carrying Chhathvratis (devotees) will be allowed to operate.
Major Traffic Restrictions
-Ashok Rajpath: Vehicular movement from Kargil Chowk to Didarganj will be completely closed. Only administrative and emergency vehicles will be allowed. Vehicles of Chhathvratis can enter from Khajanchi Road and park inside the Patna College and Science College campuses.
-Digha Mor to Ashiana Mor: Traffic will remain closed from 2 pm to 6:30 pm on October 27 and from 3 am to 6 am on October 28. Vehicles will be diverted via Ramjichak Mor-Nahar Road-Nehru Path.
Parking and Route Plans for Ghats
-Gaighat and Didarganj: Parking will be available at Kangan Ghat, Chowk Thana Mor, City School, and Mangal Talab Complex. Vehicles from old/new bypass routes will park near Hathia Bagan, Loha Godam, and Medaj Hospital.
-Local Devotees (Adraghat, Nuruddin Ghat, Nandgola Ghat, etc.): Vehicles will park on the JP Ganga Path approach road near Malsalami TOP.
-Kurji and Bans Ghat: Vehicles will enter from Kurji Mor via the JP Ganga Path underpass and park in designated northern areas.
-Pahalwan Ghat: Vehicles will move northwards from Ashok Rajpath through the underpass towards the parking zone near the ghat.
Restrictions on Major Routes
-Commercial Vehicles: From 12 pm on October 27 to 10 am on October 28, the operation of autos and other commercial vehicles will be restricted in the Gaighat bridge area.
-JP Ganga Path (Marine Drive): Complete vehicular ban from Digha Golambar to Didarganj on October 27 and 28. No vehicle will be allowed to park or make U-turns.
-JP Setu: Entry of vehicles from Sonpur/Chhapra to Patna will be stopped from 2 pm to 7:30 pm on October 27 and from 3 am to 6 am on October 28. Heavy vehicles such as buses, trucks, and JCBs are prohibited.
-Atal Path: Closed for general vehicles from 11 am to 8 pm on October 27 and from 2 am to 9 am on October 28. Only emergency vehicles will be allowed.
The traffic police have appealed to the public to cooperate by using only designated routes and avoiding unnecessary travel near restricted areas. Devotees are encouraged to walk to the ghats to prevent congestion. Strict action will be taken against vehicles violating the traffic plan.
Authorities stated that these measures aim to ensure the safety of devotees and the smooth flow of traffic during one of Bihar’s most significant festivals.
