A teenage girl was allegedly killed by her relatives in a suspected honour killing in Bihar’s Darbhanga district on Monday. Police said that the family members of the victim slit her throat and locked her body in their house before escaping. The accused family members of the victim are absconding and efforts are on to apprehend them.
The incident occurred on Monday evening in Azamnagar village of Darbhanga. The victim, identified as Archana Kumari (16), was the daughter of Suraj Mahato, who works as a migrant labourer in another state.
A senior police official involved in the investigation said that the relatives of the girl were unhappy with her love affair and decided to kill her. He said that it seems to be a case of honour killing and the investigation is going on accordingly.

Local police were alerted by the neighbours, who saw Suraj Mahato’s house locked and his relatives fleeing in haste. The police found Archana’s body with her head severed inside the house. Police officials said that the crime was committed on Monday afternoon and the relatives were waiting for nightfall to dispose of the body.

According to neighbours, Suraj Mahato had two sons and two daughters. His elder son Munchun lives at home and runs a business. His younger son Bittu runs an Army training centre at Shivdhara. His second daughter Roshan Mahato also works in another state. Police also said that they are not sure who among them were involved in the murder while efforts are on to apprehend all of them.
