Union Minister for Jal Shakti, Dr Rajbhushan Choudhary, inspected the local model hospital on Thursday as part of the ongoing Swachhata Pakhwara (Cleanliness Fortnight). While the minister praised the overall improvements in cleanliness and patient management, his visit also highlighted a significant lapse in the hospital's diagnostic services.
During his tour of the emergency ward, Dr Choudhary interacted with a patient, Suman Kumar, who complained that the hospital was not conducting all necessary medical tests. When the minister enquired further, the patient specified that key kidney function tests, such as serum urea and serum uric acid, were unavailable, forcing patients to rely on private labs.
Expressing his displeasure, the minister immediately sought an explanation from the Hospital Superintendent, Dr BS Jha. The superintendent explained that the chemical reagents required for these tests had run out. He assured the minister that a new supply has already been ordered and will arrive shortly, after which the tests will be conducted smoothly.
Despite this issue, Dr Choudhary acknowledged that the hospital's system has improved significantly. After inspecting the OPD, emergency department, and model operation theatre, he noted that patients were queuing in an orderly manner and that cleanliness standards were visibly better. He mentioned that several patients he spoke with seemed satisfied with their treatment and the arrangements.
Concluding his visit with a meeting in the superintendent's chamber, the minister issued firm instructions to rectify the noted deficiencies promptly. He also pledged to coordinate with the health department to ensure the hospital's problems are resolved.
