Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway Update: The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) on Saturday stated that the central government has approved the construction of the Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway and Ramjanaki Marg to boost the connectivity. The authority stated that the total length of the Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway is 525.6 km, out of which 417 km will be built in Bihar. This high-speed six-lane expressway will provide relief to the residents of several districts by cutting the travel time significantly and reducing the traffic congestion. The authority had also stated that the expressway will also give a boost to the financial activities in these regions.
The authority stated that this will be the third expressway in Bihar to get approval from the central government after the Varanasi-Kolkata and Patna-Purnia Expressways. It further stated that the expressway will reduce both traffic time and cost while connecting Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal.
While providing details, the authority stated that the expressway will pass through multiple districts of Bihar, including West Champaran, East Champaran, Shivhar, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, and Kishanganj. The much-hyped project is expected to boost industrial, economic, and tourism activities in these areas.
The authority further stated that 73 per cent of the expressway will pass through Bihar, adding that the expressway will connect multiple cities of Bihar to Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. It further stated that Bihar is also likely to get tremendous benefits from the construction of the expressway. The officials stated that the residents of these districts are expected to access the expressway by the end of 2025.
Earlier in February, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar stated that the state government has been working on several key infrastructure projects to provide relief to the residents of the state. While taking a dig at RJD, Nitish stated that Bihar witnessed rapid rapidnfrastructure growth since 2005, adding that the previous government did nothing for people.
