The Bihar government is expanding efforts to boost farmers’ income through multiple welfare schemes. As part of this push, the state has launched the Agro-Forestry (Krishi Vaniki) Scheme, under which farmers can purchase saplings for just Rs 10. If the saplings are protected for three years, farmers can receive an incentive of up to Rs 60 per sapling.

The scheme aims to increase green cover, improve crop quality, and enhance farmers’ earnings. Saplings can be obtained from the nearest Forest Department nursery. Farmers can also apply under the Agro-Forestry (Poplar ETP) Scheme, where poplar saplings are provided at a security deposit of Rs 10 each, refunded with incentives if at least 50 per cent of the plants survive after three years.

Required documents include land papers, Aadhaar or voter ID, and a photocopy of the bank passbook.

Technical Officer of the Hariyali Mission, Rajiv Kumar, said that forms can be filled and submitted at the local Forest Division or Forest Range office to obtain saplings.
