After a delay of nearly 15 years, the much-awaited Muzaffarpur-Hajipur bypass was finally opened to traffic on Saturday, promising significant relief from traffic congestion in the region.
The bypass, which is approximately 17 kilometres long, provides a crucial link for commuters. It starts from Madhaul on the Muzaffarpur-Hajipur National Highway and connects directly to the Sadatpur four-lane road, creating a seamless corridor for travelers heading towards Motihari, Darbhanga and Sitamarhi.
Major Benefits For Commuters
Bypassing Congested Areas: Travelers coming from Hajipur will no longer need to enter the city and pass through the heavily congested Ramdayalu to Chandni Chowk stretch.
Direct Route: Similarly, those traveling from Motihari, Sitamarhi, and Darbhanga towards Hajipur or Patna can now use this direct four-lane route from Sadatpur.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officially opened the bypass for public use on Saturday. Hailing the moment as a "historic achievement," District Magistrate (DM) Subrat Kumar Sen lauded the completion of the project.
A Long And Challenging Journey
The project's completion marks the end of a long and difficult journey that was beset by delays:
Approval and Start: The bypass was first approved in 2010, but construction work only began in 2012 due to technical issues related to land acquisition.
Legal Hurdles: The project was further complicated when landowners filed a court case, leading to a complete halt in construction for about six years.
Resumption and Completion: Following a court order, work finally resumed in 2021-22 and has now been completed.
