The fresh directives issued by the top leadership of the Congress party for district committee members and those seeking tickets for the upcoming Bihar Legislative Assembly elections have caused significant unease among both senior Congress leaders and currently serving MLAs.

According to the order by the party high command, the claimant for a ticket will be someone with a significant following on Facebook, Instagram and X platforms, Jagran.com reported. Specific minimum numbers have been set for each platform.

A person must have at least 130,000 followers on Facebook, 50,000 followers on X and 30,000 followers on Instagram for their candidacy to be considered. The same criteria apply for district committee candidacies as well.

Bihar is set to hold its Assembly elections in October-November this year.

If we assess the online activity of Congress leaders in Bihar, it seems that, except for two or three, very few will meet the required standards. Among them, Kanhaiya Kumar leads with 4.4 million followers on X and 1.4 million followers on Facebook.

Besides, the party’s former state president, Akhilesh Prasad Singh, has 371,000 followers on Facebook and 27.2 thousand on X.

However, neither of them are members of the Bihar Legislative Assembly nor is there a likelihood of them contesting the upcoming elections.
