Residents of the capital, Patna, are set to experience significant relief from traffic congestion in the near future. The completion of several critical road and bridge projects is expected to completely transform connectivity for the city and its surrounding towns.
High-Level Review Meeting
Pankaj Kumar Pal, Secretary of the Road Construction Department, recently conducted a comprehensive review of major projects being executed by the Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited (BSRDCL) and the Bihar Rajya PulNirman Nigam Limited (BRPNNL).
During the meeting, the Secretary examined the progress of all ongoing projects, the status of land acquisition, and specific obstacles hindering construction. He issued clear instructions to officials to remove these obstacles on a priority basis and ensured that all projects are completed within the set deadlines while maintaining high quality.
Key Project: JP Ganga Path Extension
A major highlight of the review was the extension of the JP Ganga Path from Digha to Koilwar. Details of the project include:
Route: The road will run via Digha-Sherpur-Bihta to the approach road of the new bridge in Koilwar.
Scope: A four-lane project spanning approximately 35.65 kilometres.
Cost: Estimated at Rs 6,495 crore.
Impact: Once completed, it will significantly ease travel from Patna to Bhojpur and surrounding areas.
Bridge Connectivity Projects
The progress of major river bridges was also scrutinised:
Bakhtiyarpur-Tajpur Bridge: The Secretary reviewed the under-construction bridge over the Ganga river connecting Bakhtiyarpur (Karjan) to Tajpur (Samastipur) and instructed officials to expedite the work for early public use.
New 6-Lane Ganga Bridge: An update was provided on a 19.76-kilometre-long, 6-lane bridge currently being built at an approximate cost of Rs 4,998.4 crore.

Regional And City Road Expansions
To further strengthen the infrastructure network, several other projects are progressing rapidly:
SH-106 Widening: The widening of the Didarganj-Fatuha-Bakhtiyarpur-Karjan section of State Highway 106 (formerly NH-30) to four lanes is expected to revitalize the Patna-Bakhtiyarpur region. This project covers a total length of 41.27 kilometres.
City Connectivity: Work is underway on the 4.3-kilometre Mithapur-Sipara and Mahuli-Punpun project.
Internal Links: The Secretary reviewed the 4-lane road connecting Patel Golambar to Eco Park and Atal Path, as well as projects linking Nehru Path with Patli Path and the construction of various Road Over Bridges (ROBs).
Administrative Directives
Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal stated unequivocally that these infrastructure developments are a top priority for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He directed all agencies to ensure timely completion to deliver the intended benefits to the public.
