Bihar: RJD leader and land dealer Rajkumar Rai, also known as Ala Rai, was shot dead on Wednesday night in Patna’s Munna Chak area under Chitragupt Nagar police station limits, according to East SP Parichay Kumar. Police said criminals ambushed Rai, chasing and firing at him. He was rushed to PMCH, where doctors declared him dead.

Six bullet shells were recovered from the spot, and both CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts are being examined. SP Parichay Kumar confirmed that CCTV footage shows two attackers involved in the crime. He said, "The deceased was associated with a political party and also had some land-related business."

Patna East SP Parichay Kumar says, "A person was shot in lane number seventeen in front of Rajendra Nagar Terminal. His name is being told as Rajkumar alias Ala Rai. Accused seen in CCTV footage. There may be other culprits as well. It is being said that this person was politically active and he also used to buy and sell land. So we are investigating every angle. Our entire police team is engaged in investigating this incident. This incident happened around 10 PM..."

Police said Rajkumar Rai, a resident of Raghopur in Vaishali district, was ambushed by two unidentified attackers near his house after returning home in his four-wheeler. He had stopped at a hotel to buy food when the assailants opened fire, hitting him with six bullets. Though supporters rushed him to the hospital, doctors declared him dead. Police from Chitragupt Nagar station, located nearby, reached the spot immediately after the incident.

"The deceased, a resident of Vaishali Raghopur, currently lived in Munna Chak, had returned from some work in a four-wheeler and started buying some food items from a hotel in the street just before his house, when the criminals fired six bullets at him, due to which he fell on the ground. On receiving the information of the incident, the Chitragupt Nagar police station, located at a distance of a few steps, reached the spot," Parichay Kumar said.

Rai, an RJD member, was preparing to contest elections independently from Tejashwi Yadav’s constituency. He had earlier contested from Raghopur and also served as Vaishali district president of the RJD’s Panchayati Raj Cell.

Currently, East SP Parichay Kumar, ASP Sadar Abhinav, Kankarbagh police station in-charge Abhay Kumar, and Chitragupt Nagar police station in-charge are investigating the case.
