Electric crematoriums are set to be constructed in 41 major cities of Bihar, including all 38 district headquarters and three other key urban centers, at an estimated cost of Rs 248 crore. The project falls under the 'Saat Nischay-2' initiative of the state government’s Atmanirbhar Bihar campaign.

As per officials from the Urban Development and Housing Department, all crematoriums will be located on river ghats. Construction work has already been completed in Supaul, Jehanabad, and Arwal, while projects in 36 cities are currently underway. New schemes for Bath and Jhanjharpur Municipal Councils have also received approval, with tenders already floated.

Urban Development and Housing Minister Jivesh Kumar stated that the construction of electric crematoriums will streamline the cremation process while contributing to cleaner rivers, reducing air pollution, and improving overall sanitation. 

The department’s secretary and other senior officials have been directed to ensure constant monitoring of the progress so that the projects are completed within the stipulated timeline.
