Union Budget 2025: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today presented the Union Budget for 2025, introducing a series of new initiatives aimed at boosting India’s agricultural sector and providing much-needed support to farmers. One of them is Prime Minister's Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana.
What Is Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana?
A significant highlight of the budget is the launch of the Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana. This ambitious scheme aims to revamp rural infrastructure, improve irrigation systems, and encourage sustainable farming practices. The programme will target 100 districts with low agricultural output, focusing on boosting productivity and supporting around 1.7 crore farmers.
Inspired by the success of the Aspirational Districts Programme, the government will roll out a ‘Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana’ in collaboration with state governments. This initiative will focus on districts with low productivity, moderate crop intensity, and limited access to credit, with a focus on improving productivity and sustainability.
Key Goals of the Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana
The government’s new scheme has several crucial objectives:
- Increase agricultural productivity: By implementing modern farming techniques and improved practices in districts with low yield.
- Promote crop diversification: Encouraging farmers to diversify crops for better returns.
- Sustainable agriculture: Introducing eco-friendly farming practices to maintain soil health and reduce dependency on chemicals.
- Improve post-harvest storage: Enhancing storage facilities at the panchayat and block level to reduce wastage and improve efficiency.
- Better credit facilities: Ensuring both long-term and short-term credit is available to farmers for better growth.
The scheme is expected to cover 100 districts with low crop intensity and financial challenges.
