In the Union Budget 2026, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has prioritised the poor, farmers, and rural India by allocating significant funds to major government schemes. Here is a breakdown of the budgetary allocations for key ministries and schemes, and how they will benefit the common man.

Significant Allocations For 4 Major Schemes

1. Massive Boost for VB-G RAM G (Formerly MGNREGA): The largest allocation has been granted to the employment guarantee scheme VB-G RAM G (previously known as MGNREGA). A provision of Rs 95,692.31 crore has been made for this scheme. For comparison, last year’s original budget was Rs 86,000 crore, which was later revised to Rs 88,000 crore.

Additionally, a separate amount of Rs 30,000 crore has been set aside this year for the "Program Component" of MGNREGA. This will directly benefit rural laborers, unemployed households and small-scale infrastructure projects in villages.

2. PM Kisan Yojana Receives Rs 63,500 Crore: The budget for the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) remains steady at Rs 63,500 crore, matching last year’s allocation. Under this scheme, small and marginal farmers receive direct cash transfers into their bank accounts to help cover the costs of seeds, fertilizers, and other farming expenses.

3. Funding for Ayushman Bharat (PM-JAY): In the health sector, the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogyya Yojana (PM-JAY) has been allocated Rs 9,500 crore. While last year's initial budget was Rs 9,401 crore, it had dropped to Rs 8,995 crore in the revised estimates. This scheme provides free medical treatment to poor and vulnerable families, specifically for expensive surgeries and specialised care in large hospitals.

4. PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana Expenditure: To ensure food security, the government has earmarked Rs 2,27,429 crore for the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY). This is an increase from last year’s initial budget of Rs 2,03,000 crore. This massive funding ensures that millions of low-income families continue to receive free or highly subsidized food grains.
