Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday presented the Budget 2024, the last session ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. This is the sixth Budget presented by the Finance Minister and last in the second term of the Modi government. Listing out the Central Government's strategies for "Amrit Kaal" Sitharaman said that economic policies that "foster and sustain growth, facilitate inclusive and sustainable development, improve productivity, create opportunities for all" will be adopted.
"Our government will adopt economic policies that foster and sustain growth, facilitate inclusive and sustainable development, improve productivity, create opportunities for all, help them enhance their capabilities and contribute to generation of resources to power investments and fulfuill aspirations," she said.

Sitharaman said that the next five years will be years of unprecedented development and golden moments to "realise the dream of developed India by 2047", adding that the government will take up next generation reforms to facilitate growth.
Announcements For Budget 2024
- 50-year interest-free loans of Rs 75,000 cr to be extended to states to realise dream of developed India.
- Sitharaman said that fulfilling aspirations and needs of Garib (poor), Mahilaye (women), Yuva (youth) and Annadata (farmers) are the highest priority of the government. "When the poor become empowered partners in the development process, the government's power to assist them also increases manifold," the Finance Minister said while presenting the 2024 Interim Budget in Lok Sabha.
- She said that direct benefit transfer (DBT) of 34 lakh crore rupees using PM Jan Dhan accounts has led to saving of 2.7 lakh crore to the government, which has strengthened the welfare of the poor.
- As Budget 2024-2025 was tabled out, the FM said that the recently announced India Middle East Europe Economic Corridor will be a game changer for India.
- To promote growth in the agricultural sector, the Centre will be encouraging public and private investment in post-harvesting agriculture activities. "Application of nano DAP on various crops will be expanded in agri climatic zone," Sitharaman said.
- Talking about the defence sector, the Finance Minister said that a new scheme will be launched for strengthening deep-tech technology for security forces.
