Tata Group Stock: Almost all Tata Group stocks, including Trent, Tata Chemicals, Tata Investment Corporation and Relish India, traded higher on Friday after Tata Trust appointed Ratan Tata's half-brother Noel Tata its chairman. After Ratan Tata's demise on Wednesday, it was speculated that Noel will take over Ratan's fortune. Tata Sons is 65.9% owned by trusts, 12.87% by half a dozen Tata group companies, and 18.4% by the Mistry family.

  • Shares of Tata Investment Corporation jumped 5% to a high of Rs 7,269.85 apiece
  • Trent share price rose 3.4% to ₹8,309.20 on the BSE.
  • Relish India share price surged over 2.5%
  • Tata Chemicals gained 2.9% in intra-day trade.
  • Titan Co.’s share price gained over 1%
  • while Tata Communications gained 2%
  • Tejas Network gained 1.9%.

Noel Tata

An executive with knowledge of the development said that the Tata Trust board meeting on Friday morning approved the appointment of Noel Tata as chairman of Tata Sons following the death of his half-brother Ratan Tata on October 9.

Noel Tata is already on the boards of the original Sir Ratan Tata Trust and Sir Dorabji Tata Trust. Since 2014 he has been Chairman of Trent Limited. Trent's stock price has jumped over 12% in one week and delivered a multi-bagger return of more than 170% year-to-date (YTD). The stock is up more than 290% in one year and more than 648% in three years.

Noel, who was appointed Vice Chairman of Titan in 2018, will be appointed Vice Chairman of Tata Steel in March.
