The aadhaar card number is basically a unique 12-digit random number that is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Recently, it has become one of the most important documents required to prove a person’s identity, address, etc. So, it is very important to have an Aadhaar Card these days. Given the increasing importance of this 12-digit unique identification number, the UIDAI allows Aadhaar cards for newborn babies also. According to the UIDAI norms, there is no need for biometrics while applying for an Aadhaar card in case of a minor or a newly born baby.
The Aadhar card for children issued by UIDAI is also known as Baal Aadhaar. Even newborns are eligible for an Aadhaar card.
In the case of kids who are under 5 years, the aadhaar card issued for children is blue in colour and is also known as blue Aadhaar. These days, many hospitals have also started to get newborns enrolled for Aadhaar and they offer the Aadhaar acknowledgement slips along with birth certificates these days.
What are the documents required to enrol for Blue Aadhaar Card?
In India almost everyone can enrol for Aadhaar - and this is even applicable for a newborn child. The documents you need to enrol for a blue Aadhaar card are the child's birth certificate and the Aadhaar of either of the parents. The Aadhaar number of the child is linked with one of the parent’s Aadhaar.
What is Blue Aadhaar Card?
Baal Aadhaar or Blue Aadhaar is issued by the UIDAI to children below 5 years of age. A Blue Aadhaar does not contain the biometric details of the children. The biometrics are updated once the child attains the age of 5.
Blue Aadhaar Card is printed in a blue-coloured letter card and it becomes invalid when the child becomes five years of age. To make the card valid the Aadhaar holder (Parents) needs to update the Aadhaar details with biometrics once the child attains five years of age.
How To Apply for Aadhaar Card for Newborn Babies?
Follow the below-listed steps to apply for Aadhaar of children below 5 years of age:
Step 1: Visit your nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre
Step 2: Fill in the Aadhaar Enrolment form mentioning your Aadhaar number on it
Step 3: Any one of the parents needs to provide their Aadhaar details for enrolling children below 5 years
Step 4: The photograph of your child will be taken
Step 5: The address and other demographic details have to be filled in from the parent’s Aadhaar
Step 6: Parents need to submit a copy of the birth certificate or discharge certificate from the hospital where the child was born
Step 7: The Aadhaar executive will provide you with the acknowledgement slip that contains the enrolment number. The enrolment number can be used to check the status of the Aadhaar generation
One must note that for children below 5 years. the Fingerprints and iris scan is not taken. Besides, you can get your child’s Aadhaar within three months.
