SMAT 2025: Star fast bowler Mohammed Shami had put up another brilliant performance in the ongoing domestic performance on Thursday. The star fast bowler, who was snubbed from India's T20I team for the series against South Africa, rattled Services' batting attack and registered brilliant figures of 4/13, and helped Bengal win the match by seven wickets.

It was Bengal's fourth win of the five that they have played till now, and they have become the table toppers after scoring 16 points. They are inching closer towards qualifying for the knockouts. Easwaran, who had entered his name for the IPL auction, scored a match-winning knock of 58 runs off 37 balls. Abhishek Porel too had scored a gritty knock of 56 runs off 29 balls and stitched a 93-run partnership for the second wicket and helped the team post a mammoth target of 166 runs, which Bengal was able to chase in 15.1 overs.

Shami first dismissed Gaurav Kocchar for a duck and then took the wicket of Ravi Chauhan, who had scored a gritty knock of 26 runs off nine balls. On the other hand, Mukesh Kumar had a forgetful outing as he gave away 53 runs, whereas Akash Deep registered figures of 3/27, and Writtick Chatterjee took two wickets and gave away 32 runs. Shami then returned and took two more wickets and helped the team skittle Services out for just 165 runs. Mohit Ahlawat was their highest run-scorer as he had scored 38 runs off 22 balls.

He has been performing brilliantly in the domestic tournament, while India's fast bowlers have been slammed for the way they have performed against South Africa. Prasidh Krishna gave away 85 runs in the second ODI, even though he did take two wickets. Harbhajan Singh too slammed the selectors for ignoring Shami in ODIs.

“Where is Shami? I don't know why Shami is not playing. I get it, you have Prasidh, he is a good bowler, but he still has a lot to learn. You had good bowlers, and you have slowly sidelined them. With Bumrah, this is a different bowling attack, and without Bumrah, it is an entirely different attack altogether. We have to learn the art of winning games without Jasprit Bumrah,” Harbhajan was quoted as saying on his YouTube channel.

Shami last represented India in the summit clash of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against New Zealand. He was last seen in the shortest format against England, where he took three wickets, and hasn't played for India since then.

HARDIK SHINES FOR BARODA

On the other hand, Hardik Pandya continued his sublime form against Punjab. He registered figures of 1/16 and helped the team skittle them out for just 73 runs.

Just two Gujarati batters could score in double digits. Hardik took the wicket of Urvil by taking a stunning catch, whereas Raj Limbani took three wickets. Baroda chased the target in 6.4 overs, where Hardik scored 10 runs off six balls. He will now be going to Cuttack to join the national side for the five-match T20I series against South Africa.
