New Delhi | Jagran Sports Desk: Cricket Australia (CA) has named wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni as the captain of the ODI team of the decade. The team released on Tuesday by the CA also features three Indian players in the lineup. Apart from Dhoni, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have made the cut in the CA's ODI lineup of the year.
In a statement, Cricket Australia said that input of MS Dhoni with the bat did fail off during the second half of the decade, but he was a dominant force in a golden period of India's one day side. Dhoni established himself as India's ultimate finisher with the bat and brought World Cup glory on home soil in 2011."
"Dhoni's average of over 50 is undoubtedly boosted by the fact that 49 of his innings were unbeaten. He has been not in on 28 occasions while chasing for Men in Blue where India lost just three times. And his work behind the stumps has rarely let him or his bowlers down," it added.
The 38-year-old is enjoying some time away from cricket and he last played international cricket during the ICC World Cup 2019. He had to endure the criticism for his slow batting approach in the tournament. Especially in matches against New Zealand and England, he had to bear the brunt of netizens who deemed him the reason for India's loss.
Rohit and former South Africa opening batsman Hashim Amla has been chosen as the opener of the squad.
CA ODI team of the decade:
Rohit Sharma, Hashim Amla, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Shakib Al Hasan, Jos Buttler, MS Dhoni (c), Mitchell Starc, Trent Boult, Lasith Malinga, Rashid Khan.
Interestingly, Australia's left-arm pacer Starc only made it to the playing eleven of the decade.
Opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan and pace spearhead Jasprit did not make it to the ODI team of the decade, but CA listed them as honorary mentions.
Earlier on Monday, CA had announced the Test team of the decade.
