Gautam Gambhir Criticism, IND vs SA Tests: Gautam Gambhir's future as India's head coach looks in jeopardy amid the team's disappointing performance in the ongoing two-match Test series against South Africa. As India inches closer to yet another Test series defeat, Iceland Cricket has taken a dig at Gautam Gambhir amid heavy speculations.

Gambhir is currently the head coach of India in all three formats, but a decision might be taken in the coming days as the performance in the Test format witnesses a new low. India lost the first Test in Kolkata and has allowed the South African team to run away with a huge upper hand in the second game as well in Guwahati.

Iceland Cricket, known for its witty takes on cricketing subjects on social media, said that Gambhir will not be invited to fulfil the position of their team's head coach, in reference to his poor results in Tests. "To all our fans, no, Gautam Gambhir will not be invited to be our new national team coach. That position is already filled, and we won 75% of our matches in 2025," Iceland Cricket wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

While there has been no official statement or indication from the BCCI that Gambhir will be sacked, fans and a few former cricketers have batted for the big change in the team management, at least for the longest format of the game. Having taken over the coaching role last year, India already has 9 out of 18 matches played so far, including a 0-3 whitewash series defeat at home against New Zealand.

Under Gambhir's coaching, India's Test dominance at home came to an end, losing a series after 12 years. India has gone on to lose four of their last six home Tests. The last time India lost a Test series against South Africa was in 2000. A draw or a defeat in the Guwahati series would mean the first series defeat for the Indian team against the Proteas at home in 25 years.

Apart from the results, Gambhir has been under the scanner also for his decisions to pick way-out-of-the-box combinations as well as shuffling the batting or bowling order to much. Washington Sundar, who played at the No. 3 spot in the first Test, came out to bat at the No. 8 spot in the second.
