IPL 2025 Mega Auction: It won't be wrong to say that Australia's star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is currently going through a lean patch and this started way back in IPL 2024. He had one of his worst seasons with RCB this year and his woeful form continued throughout the year as well.

In the recently concluded ODI series against Pakistan which the visitors won by 2-1, he became Haris Rauf's bunny, and due to that he was slammed a lot for his performances by former cricketers. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) also released him before the mega-auction and now Maxwell has entered his name once again in the auction pool.

Let's take a look at some of the reasons why Maxwell can go unsold at the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction:

1. Base price slightly on the higher side

Australia's star all-rounder had put his base price at Rs 2 crore and this can be a hindrance to his IPL future. Considering that he is 36 years old any franchise won't consider it a smart decision to buy him for Rs 2 crore as instead, they would rather spend this amount on a youngster.

If he had reduced his price, then any franchise would have thought of buying him at the mega auction due to his experience.

2. Average performance last season

Maxwell's form was woeful in IPL 2024. He had scored just 52 runs in the 10 matches that he played at an average of 5.78. He was seen struggling throughout the tournament and the bowlers were successful in dismissing him.

He was one of the players to watch out for before the season began but halfway through the season Will Jacks replaced him as the team management couldn't back him much.

3. Overall IPL impact is not that great

Except for IPL 2014, where he 562 runs after playing in 16 matches, and in IPL 2021, where he scored 513 runs, Maxwell hasn't had a great campaign in IPL as a whole.

Even before RCB bought him, he had an average run in IPL 2020, where he scored 108 runs after playing in 13 matches and had smashed no sixes. He has been consistent in this tournament and considering his age, all the 10 franchises won't really be interested in buying a player like Maxwell at the auction.
