India vs South Africa 2nd Test: India's skipper Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli won many hearts with a spirited gesture after the win over South Africa in the second Test at the Newlands in Cape Town on Thursday, January 4.

India registered a dominant win, defeating the hosts by seven wickets in the second Test to level the two-match series 1-1.

After the match, Virat was seen gifting South Africa's senior batter Dean Elgar his signed jersey as the veteran retired from the game.

The gesture took no time to go viral on social media before Indian captain Rohit Sharma presented Dean Elgar with an Indian team jersey signed by Indian players during the post-match presentation.

Rohit congratulated South African opener Elgar for having a glorious career for the South African side in test cricket.

Notably, Kohli had also made a special gesture when he took Elgar’s catch in the second innings of the match.

He walked towards Dean Elgar hugged him and bowed down to the left-handed batter when he was walking back to the pavilion after being dismissed on just 12 runs.

The entire Indian side also came forward to congratulate him on his illustrious career.

It was Elgar once again, who stood tall to prevent India from winning their maiden Test series win on South African soil with his magnificent knock in the first Test at Centurion.

Elgar bailed his team out of trouble in the first innings and ended up scoring 185 runs as the memorable knock was enough for his team to clinch the victory by an innings and 32 runs.

Elgar took the leadership role in the first Test after regular captain Temba Bavuma went out of the field due to injury concern as the veteran led from the front to help his team take a 1-0 lead in the series.

After Bavuma was ruled out, Elgar was named as the stand-in captain of the side in his final Test for South Africa.

Elgar, along with Jasprit Bumrah, was adjudged as the Player of the Series.

"Such an important player for South Africa, what he's done throughout his career for South Africa, only few have done that. Very gritty. His wicket - we only spoke about how we want to get him out quickly. For someone to have a career like that, we do appreciate it, all of us. I'd like to wish him the best for the future. You don't get to see a player like that every now and then. A brilliant career, best wishes ahead," Rohit Sharma said about Elgar at the post-match presentation.
